Our Mission

To advance the cause of Christian education as it is understood from a distinctively Reformed perspective

About Us

Perspectives in Covenant Education is a journal regulated and published quarterly by the Protestant Reformed Teachers’ Institute. The journal is intended to serve as an encouragement and an inducement toward individual scholarship, and a medium for the development of distinctive principles and methods of teaching. The journal is meant to be a vehicle of communication, not only within the profession, but within the Protestant Reformed community and within the Christian community in general.

Our History

Shortly after the formation of the Protestant Reformed Teachers’ Institute (PRTI), teachers within this organization began to call for further professionalism and development in their community of Reformed educators. At that time, teachers would meet and present papers (or manuscripts) to each other on important and relevant educational topics. Many of the teachers discussed the need for a publication which could be a vehicle for sharing the scholarly and practical topics teachers were thinking and writing about.

In 1975, the board of the PRTI met and approved the creation of a new journal known as Perspectives in Covenant Education. The grounds for that decision were given as the following: “1.) we have a considerable number of people in our ranks who are capable of making significant written contributions, 2.) we have previously prepared manuscripts that could be published, 3.) we have no magazine at the present time in the Protestant Reformed community that deals exclusively with the development of Protestant Reformed education, and 4.) professional responsibility demands that we undertake the production of such a journal.”

What's Next?

Today, the journal continues to publish four issues a year, guided by the same conviction that gave it birth. Readers will encounter an understanding of Christian education that comes out of the rich soil of the Reformed tradition. For that reason, this magazine is meant to be of profit for all those who love and support Christian education from a Reformed perspective.
